July 3, 2021 – TLC Times

By July 3, 2021 TLC Times

This morning girls walked into the dining hall with Tripp Lake sweatpants on, ready to start the day in the coziest way. After breakfast, girls each went to their first activity – our Seniors hopped into the water to try and pass caps, which means that they did a swim test to try and move up in their swim level. The girls said they welcomed the warm water despite the cooler air temperatures and did a fantastic job during their test! Our 1AB ladies spent the afternoon strolling around camp with some incredible staff members who were past campers. They walked as a group around the entire camp – talking, laughing, and asking questions to our staff about what camp was like ‘back in the day.’ There’s something very special about connecting with staff members who share the same memories as you. But also just as special to see new staff members experience our Tripp Lake traditions with campers for the first time.

After a lunch of a camper favorite (taco day!), we switched up the day with some age group bonding, where the focus shifted away from structured activities and more to a creative space for brainstorming and planning. Our Inter I campers prepared their entire OG-NOG performance from start to finish – quite the feat for one day! OG-NOG is a camp-wide show focused on empowering returning and new campers to perform for all of camp, which is just around the corner! Our Inter II campers worked on Wish Night by brainstorming a theme and talking about their committee responsibilities. Seniors worked on their team projects, one being Sing Song and the other being Team Feast, a night designed to celebrate the Team Captains which the managers organize. It’s a huge surprise each year that everyone looks forward to!

After afternoon activities, all campers had their daily free period. Campers can choose to fill this time with activities or absolutely nothing at all. Once girls finished up at dinner, our Inter I’s had kitchen permissions (KP), a special evening activity that grants them permission to the dining room kitchen to make the camp favorite – cinnamon toast, with their entire age group. This night is something campers look forward to, especially since it only happens once per summer! Meanwhile, our Inter III campers taught Little Team cheers to our Juniors, where you could see our Juniors beaming with excitement to finally be part of the cheer squad! Last but certainly not least, we ended the day with Candy Canteen – a special weekly snack night, with tonight being extra special since they got to pick any candy they want to be delivered to their bunk!

Tomorrow we will be starting the 4th of July holiday off with a late breakfast, giving campers and staff time to recharge for the day. Everyone has the option to free dress with their best red, white and blue! After morning activities, the afternoon will bring practice time for Sing Song – the singing competition that all campers participate in with their Big Team, which is also one of the most beautiful nights of the entire summer.

We look forward to celebrating the holiday tomorrow at camp, and can’t wait to share our celebrations with you!

Kind Regards,

Leslie
