Day 18: The Importance of Our Community

LOVETLCIn Poland, Maine, Tripp Lake Camp knows we aren’t the only ones living in this beautiful landscape. We are aware and appreciative of the larger community surrounding us. Knowing that, we see it necessary to contribute and be apart of this social ecosystem. In the past, we’ve participated in raising awareness and donations for charities such as Dunk Your Kicks for Pediatric Cancer and The Tutu Project.

We asked our Seniors if they would be interested in taking a little bit of time out of their day-to-day camp lives in order to volunteer at two local non-profits. The first one, Camp Sunshine, provides “respite, support, joy, and hope to children with life-threatening illnesses and their immediate families from around the world through the various stages of their journeys.” They also arrange “bereavement sessions for families who have lost a child to supported illnesses.” This past Monday afternoon, some of our  Tripp Lake Seniors went to Camp Sunshine to spend time with these children, in hopes to bring a little  joy into their lives. The TLC Times Daily Blog interviewed two Senior II’s, Jessica & Allie, to reflect on their personal experiences. I proudly invite you to click the link below and listen to what they have to say:

Last but not least, our Senior I’s spent this past Monday at the Good Shepherd Food Bank, helping sort and package food for less fortunate people and families. Good Shepard Food Bank mission is to eliminate hunger in Maine by sourcing and distributing nutritious food to people in need, building strong community partnerships, and mobilizing the public in the fight to end hunger. The TLC Times Daily Blog sat down with a couple of Senior I’s, Devin & Taylor, to talk a little bit about what type of work they did, and how much their donated time contributed to helping the larger Maine community. Once again,  I invite you to click the link below and listen to what they have to say about their experience:
