Tripp Lake has wonderful art classes to inspire the very beginner or the aspiring artist. Campers develop their artistic abilities and learn creative ways to express themselves in TLC’s art program. From learning to make a vase on the pottery wheel, or take, develop and print black and white photos, to designing silver earrings or writing for the TLC Times, each camper will find an art shop she will enjoy. At the end of the summer, the art department hosts an Art Show where the girls’ finest work is on display for the campers and staff to enjoy.
Arts & Crafts
If you can imagine it, you can create it in Arts and Crafts! This is our most diverse Art Shop, where a wide variety of projects entice every type of artist to do her best. Campers can make friendship bracelets in every team color (and others), design tie-dye t-shirts, dip candles, quilt pillows, sculpt paper machè masterpieces, hand craft tile mosaics, and more.
Shapes, shapes and more shapes! In copper enameling, campers decorate copper pieces to create items such as jewelry, decorative plates and jewelry boxes. Our instructors teach campers the skills to make their projects as simple or complex in design as they want.
Culinary arts offers campers a chance to get creative with their food! With the guidance of highly skilled working chefs, camper’s learn a variety of skills in the kitchen. From baking, decorating, sauteing, chopping, and more; their imagination is their only limit. In our industrial facilities, campers have created a variety of delicious goodies such as: lasagna, pie, cookies, fruit tart just to name a few.
Using digital SLR cameras, girls learn the fundamentals of digital photography including camera settings, composition, perspective, lighting and color. Campers learn how to edit and print their own photos in our photo lab. Our Inter I’s take a photo trip along the coast of Maine snapping scenic pictures to save memories of camp that will last a lifetime.
In photography campers learn how to use 35mm cameras and techniques to enhance their black and white photographs. Learning these skills will also improve their digital photography when they return home. Many a girl exposed to photography at TLC has gone on to develop a lifelong love and talent for photography.
In pottery, campers are given the opportunity to practice different types of techniques with clay such as glazing, sculpting, throwing on the wheel and hand building. They are also given creative freedom to design their own projects.
In silver, campers first learn the techniques, skills, and safety precautions of the shop. Once these are learned, girls let their creative juices flow and create wonderful pieces of jewelry.
Every camper can become a reporter at the TLC Times! In this shop girls work on their writing skills and create a weekly camp newspaper. The TLC Times features articles about the camp as well as various types of creative writing.
Video & Film Making
Campers are taught all about digital video cameras, are asked to create their own shots, and help collect footage for the yearbook video in this shop. Counselors work with the girls to help them learn how to set up a shot and edit on their own.
